WATER

Monday a week ago I arrived at SMBI for a week of training on the WATER. I spent the weekend going from nervous, to relaxed, to having fun. It was a interesting week. We had no clue what was coming next all week long, and there was even a day with no time. We had no electronics of any assortment. We even had to hand in our cameras. That day the girls dorm didn't have hot water either and something went wrong in the guys dorm so they didn't have water at all, and since I stayed across the road we got to keep our hot water... =) Yeah I survived without my electronics..=) Here are a few pics from this past week...

Camping Trip..... and Weddings......

Where do I start since it's been so long?!?! Well, May 21-23 our youth went on our yearly camping trip. As secretary of the youth group, yes, I was in charge of meals. It went smoothly and I survived. We left about 10 am Tuesday. We spent the afternoon getting tents set up and just hanging out. Breakfast was served about 9 the next morning after which we left for the ball fields. We played softball from 10-4, and spent the evening hanging out. The next day after packing our tents and all the food back into the cattle trailer, we left for the ball fields. We spent all day again playing softball till 4. Then we caught supper on the way home and were to be back at the school by 8. Yes, it was a lot of fun!!!

Here is the whole group!!!

Forgot to say first, May 4th I went to Barry and Sarah Brubaker's wedding in Kentucky. I went up Friday with a van load of people from here, and came home Saturday after the wedding with Ryan and Kendra.

Not a very good picture. Barry and Sarah Brubaker

June 1st was Alex and Carissa Skrivseth's wedding. We packed up and went to Indiana that weekend. It was fun hanging out with friends and family. I went to Bible School with both of them so there were some Bible School friends there and also Alex is my cousin so there was family there!! Twas a lot of fun!

Alex and Carissa

Someday I think I will blog about the wonderful cousin's I have (am I biased?). But for today I will tell you about the weddings I have been to this summer so far.

June 8, my good friend from GA got married. So that was a day trip over to GA. One of my 2nd cousin's were there. I NEVER expected to see her so it was a lot of fun getting reaquainted! =)

Stan and Marilyn

That's the latest weddings, and when I get to the rest of them I will update more. That is if I feel inspired I guess. A verse to leave with you until next time:
"No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it." ~I Corinthians 10:13
I know this really doesn't have a lot to do with the post, but I read it this morning and wanted to share it with y'all!

Singing.....

This weekend our church's mens chorus had a 20 year anniversary. It did not affect me other than the fact that my 2 brothers sang in it. They practiced Friday night, all day Saturday, gave a program at one of the Methodist churches Saturday night, gave a program at Barnwell Mennonite this morning, and gave a program at Hepzibah Mennonite tonight. This morning while they were singing, I allowed my mind to wonder (I confess). =) I started thinking about singing and how much singing has affected my life.

School programs are 3/4 singing. We have done programs that were more story telling and talking, but we always go back to singing. No, We're not the world's greatest singers but we enjoy it!!!

My family sings. Daddy loves to get us together and sing some songs. We have sang a few songs at our church in the evenings, one evening we went to GA and gave a program. In family devotions we sing. Once again, We're not the world's most wonderful singers, but we have fun and we all love to sing (Daddy would say we don't always show it =)).

When we go to Skrivseth reunions, or family from that side come to visit, there is often singing heard. All of Daddy's sisters play piano. His Mom is amazing on the piano, I love to hear her play. Grandma tell's us to gather round and sing. I've been out to visit them and she would have me play the piano, I quote her, "It does my heart good". It does my heart good too to play the piano, and when I'm home I don't play often enough!!!

On the Hege side we don't have as much verbal singing. Grandma did play piano, I always liked to hear her play as well. We, my siblings and I, would stay at mom's brothers house many times when mom and daddy went somewhere, and we would sing in family devotion's.

Our church has a mixed chorus, and a men's chorus (I already mentioned that). We enjoy when groups come and visit us. We enjoy our Sunday evenings when we have song services.

Music is a big part of my life. It has shaped me in so many different ways that I haven't mentioned. I have wondered before why music is so important to me, and I decided today that it has been such a big part of my life I don't think I could live with out. I love listening and making music.

And the verse for this post, since I'm posting about singing, is Psalm 105:2, "Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him, talk ye of all His marvelous works."

Updating!!!

I was looking at my blog list to see all the updates that my friends have posted. I got done with that and started browsing my blog, and came to a realization that I don't have any updates on some of the stuff I was looking forward to that I had blogged about. So here goes.....

Here is some small pics of our valentine party for the parents...
Credit for pics goes to Geneva Skrivseth...

It's a little picture but I hope you can get the point. =) It did go well, The one chocolate fondue fountain did quit on me, but I whizzed the crock pot out and that worked wonderful!!!

Idaho was wonderful!! I had lots of fun catching up with family and friends out there! Yes, there was that dreaded snow some mornings. That's all it lasted... A morning... So I was happy about that!! =) I got home and Geneva asked me if I ever went out and played in it... To the which I told her no there was no one to play in it with. It was also to pretty to mess it up! =) I would love to upload all my Idaho pics (wait, maybe not you would get bored!!!) but since that would not be practical... =) Here are just a few...

Chairs in Grandma's front yard....

A pond down the road... Its was full of water fowl!!!

Beautiful Mountains!!!

A quick peek at the snow....

Another peek...

Toria and Shaunti... I accidentally took this pic but thought it was cute!!!

Toria, Shaunti, and I...

Sam, me, and Kaitlyn...
I love cousins!!! And I don't get enough of these!!

So there are a few of what I did... More recently I have got back into the rhythm of home life again I think... Working at the shop, and milking cows, then to run off to youth, church or whatever else is on the agenda.. Yes, my life stays busy!!!

And a verse to end on.. I have been reading thru Revelation's in my devotions. It's very interesting, so I'm gonna leave you with this verse, Revelation 22:12 and 13, 12“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. 13“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
Blessings,

Just Some Thoughts....

I flew to Idaho yesterday. I had an connecting flight in Atlanta, Ga where the sun was shining brightly. From sunshiny GA I flew into grey, overcast sky's of Minneapolis, MN, where it looked cold with snow on the ground and grey sky's. I left Minneapolis for Spokane, WA. As we were flying out of Minneapolis I was thinking about how cold and grey and nasty it looked and was thinking it was a good thing it didn't work out for me to go to MBS for 3rd term this year, cause I know I would have had a hard time adjusting to that cold weather, especially cause my dear, wonderful family back home in South Carolina would have rubbed it into me how they were having such wonderful weather, when we got through those overcast sky's of Minneapolis into the bright, beautiful sunshine above those grey clouds. (sorry bout the run-on, it was fun tho!!! =)) I had to think about how I sometimes think my life is so bad. I think there are nothing but nasty, grey clouds out and I just wanna sit down and cry. I'm gonna have to remind myself, that there is a beautiful sun beyond those clouds. God doesn't forget about me. He doesn't leave me to my overcast sky's. Someday soon those overcast sky's will shine with a beautiful sun again!!!

Why did I fly to Idaho? Grandma Skrivseth had another hip replacement, and once again I'm here to see the house keeps clean and nice (which reminds me... there's dishes in the sink that need washed or put in the dishwasher, but for now I'm gonna ignore them. I'll get to them in a little... =)), and Grandma and Grandpa stay happy.... =)

Here they are...

On my way out here I was trying to brace myself for this snow I was sure was gonna be around. I was trying not to think of driving on ice and snow. I know they say driving on snow is no different than driving on sand... but at least where there is sand it is warm!!! I really think that was my biggest problem. I was trying to brace myself for the cold!!! Then I flew into Minneapolis and there was snow there, I was sure there was gonna be snow here in Idaho. Well, what do you know?!?!? I got here, and well, there's snow in the shady parts and in the mountains, but THERE'S NO SNOW!!! I can't talk to loud cause well, there might be snow while I'm here yet, but as for right now, it's no colder here than it was at home when I left!!!

Ok, so snow I'm sure is NOT that bad... It's just well, for this southern girl, who, well, snow mean's Walmart , school, and everything shuts down cause no one can go out on the roads, well, snow is just a scary thought... Snow also means, wet, cold, miserable, bone chilling cold... Yes, if I had to I would learn to enjoy it.

Well, this is just getting long and drawn out, so I needa shut down. Some verses before I go from 1 Peter 1: 13-16  '13Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, 15but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLYFOR I AM HOLY.”'

Bits and Pieces Swimming Around in My Head

What was I thinking when I agreed to the youth host a valentines party for there parents? Yeah, its a good idea, I think it will be great, I'm just feeling like I'm under the water looking up!!! Did I say, I'm the only youth committee left at home? So, for some dumb reason I feel responsible if something doesn't go good... Why? I don't know. I'm trying to keep my head up and move on.

The party is Wednesday night, thoughts of chicken, potatoes, peas, salad, chocolate fondue, fryers and people to fry the chicken, do we have enough dishes, do they look good, what time do I get there to start the food? How much time do I need for everything? Yes, there are other girls doing the decor. I do have girls helping me with the food. Do I have everything? Will I get there and find out I need this, this, and this yet?!?!? I need to send an announcement out about how they are suppose to dress.... Don't forget!!!

Saturday, the youth are building a wheelchair ramp for an elderly couple in the community. I need to get a menu planned for lunch. I need to ask people to bring things. I need to make sure it gets there and gets served.

I need to keep my head above the water for two more weeks. Then the rest of the committee will be home. Then maybe I can have a little time to think. Yes, I will cause then I go to Idaho for two weeks!!!

Yes, that's what else is swimming. Tickets... Will I have enough money even if I take this sabbatical? Not much of a sabbatical, I'm going to help Grandma and Grandpa after Grandma's hip replacement.  Yes, I will... I don't want to fly by myself again!!! But how else am I gonna get there? I will fly and I will enjoy it, again.

I know I'm probably the strangest person, but I like flying. No, I would not have said that after I got home from Idaho in September. But, I do like it! I like the thrill of walking thru airports, the take off, landing, believe it or not, watching people, and believe it or not, I even read so much I get tired of reading when I fly!!!

I just like traveling. I like going and seeing people. I like seeing the wonderful creation that God has created for us to take care of, to see the places people have set aside to show how people lived in the "good 'ole days". This is my first trip this year. I wonder how many more I will take. God knows.

I'm glad I don't plan my life. It would be such a mess. So, I am letting God use me for each day. I plan ahead, but my plan's are liable to change in a little. Sometimes I wish I could see what God has planned for me for at least the next year. But, I don't even wanna know. It would ruin the surprise.

So there are the bits and pieces swimming around in my head. They are really random I know. It's what's in my life. I am enjoying my life!!! I would complain of being bored if I didn't have this stuff going on. So, yes, I am trying to enjoy every moment God gives me.

The verse I will end this post with the verse our sermon was about on Sunday. II Timothy 2:15 says, "Be  diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth."

The Weekend Between Terms

Our weekend was great! Friday afternoon we left the house for Heritage Bible School program. We stopped in at Richard B. Russel campground to get the key to the cabin we rented. Then we continued on to the program. It was a wonderful program, and I got to see lots of people that I haven't seen in a long time. One of the highlights (probably more for Ryan than for the rest of us, tho we did enjoy as well) was that Kendra surprised Ryan. So after Ryan and Gwynndon played their game of volleyball we headed back to the cabin. We arrived there around midnight and spent about the next 2 hours talking and goofing off.

The next day, we slowly resurrected from our beds and had a wonderful breakfast casserole. Slowly got around and left for Tallulah State Park. We had a wonderful time looking out over the gorge, hiking trails and yes the stairs to the swinging bridge.... Well, I wouldn't say they were the funnest thing I have done... But it was worth it!!! =)

                               Our Cabin.....

Wonder who this couple would be.... =)

I know these pics aren't very good quality... but my dear camera does the best it can... =)

Sunday, we went back to HBS for church... Then left for home about 2:30. It was a wonderful weekend!!! =)

I know this is not very much writing but hopefully the pics tell the rest of the story...

Church Sunday night they discussed this verse, it's had me thinking since then so I will share it here... "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" ~II Corinthians 10: 5

Overheard at the Dinner Table....

Grandma Hege is visiting this week. Mom invited a few older ladies from the community here for dinner. She made green beans, salad and dessert, Aunt Benita made German Lasagna, and Aunt Cheryl made bread. It was a delicious dinner. Our discussions were the most interesting. They ranged from cooking at Maranatha Bible School and Heritage Bible School, and who they cooked with, Who is related to who and how long ago it was they were the closest related, What they ate for breakfast when they were young, and more....

Some snippets, I'll try to keep these accurate....
~"How did you keep up with _______________?" "Oh, I didn't keep up with her, I worked around her, she was away pulling some joke on someone...."
~"_________ serves mush one morning, and grits the next morning to please the northerners and southerners." "What is mush exactly?" Much discussion, but from what I picked up, it's cornmeal and milk or water and sugar maybe. "Yes, we would have mush for breakfast, something and or with mush for dinner, and fried mush for supper..."
~"You should tell them what was Granddaddy's favorite food, Grandmother could fix this in the morning before she went to sewing circle or something and his dinner was all ready." "Yes, He liked cracker soup..." "Now what is Cracker Soup?" "Cracker soup is you boil your water, put crushed crackers in it with a lid on top so it absorbs the water, with some sugar and cream on top, then sprinkle nutmeg on top. He really liked it."
That led to....
~"Didn't the Amish feed there children Coffee Soup?" Some shrugs by some of the use to be Amish. "Yes" one lady says, "that's what we had for breakfast every morning. We had coffee soaked in bread on top of scrambled eggs. My husband didn't like it so I never served it after I was married, I don't even know if i would still like it." "Maybe you should make it and try it, to see if you still like it." "I'll have to do that and then make it and invite y'all for breakfast and we'll have Coffee Soup."
~"__________ did some research, and he says everyone in the church is related somehow, except on family."
~ 2nds were being passed around, "What kind of potatoes are these?" "There not potatoes, it's German Lasagna," "Oh, you better tell me what I'm eating" =)
~There were more... But this is all I could remember....

Yes, I got an education at lunch. An interesting one, I always did like history, and to hear some of these ladies telling there memories was a history lesson in itself. I'm glad I went in the house for lunch. Sometimes I think someone aught to write down some of these memories, or they will be totally lost one day.

Now I'm back at the shop. I wanted to write these down while they were still fresh on my mind. The verse to go along with today's post would be, "That the older women should teach the younger."

Blessings!!!!
